Back country skiers escape avalanche in K-Country

A group of six skiers in the back country in Kananaskis barely escaped tragedy after they were caught in an avalanche on Sunday.

Three people in the group were full buried in snow and a fourth partially buried in the slide that occurred near a popular ski area called Hero’s Knob.

The trapped skiers were dug out by other members of their group.

They were all flown out in a helicopter and only one skier had to be treated for minor injuries.

Officials with Kananaskis Public Safety say skiers should be cautious of avalanches all the way through to the end of this ski season.
