Alberta Ballet celebrating 60 years with ‘season like no other’

As Alberta Ballet turns 60, Francesco Ventriglia describes “a profound sense of honour and gratitude” to be its artistic director at this time.

In a release on Thursday morning, Alberta Ballet promises “a season like no other.”

Half a dozen shows are scheduled for the 2026-27 season, and Alberta Ballet says they all feature “a thoughtful curation of stories,” celebrating humanity “in a way that only beautiful ballet can.”

“I invite you to be part of a season that reflects the depth of our legacy while embracing new creative horizons,” Ventriglia said.

“Each performance becomes a chapter in this unfolding story, bringing you closer to iconic works, powerful new creations and the extraordinary artists who bring them to life.

“Returning to the theatre throughout the season, you will experience the scale, beauty and emotional power of live ballet.”

Shows for the 2026-27 season include:

• Giselle (September)—a defining work of the Romantic era;
• Peer Gynt (October)—Henrik Ibsen’s epic tale;
• The Nutcracker (December)—a beloved holiday tradition returns;
• 60th Anniversary Gala (February)—celebrating six decades of artistry;
• Beethoven 200 (April)—honours one of history’s greatest composers; and
• Snow White (May)—a beloved fairy tale transformed.

“To serve as artistic director, and as a choreographer, entrusted with shaping the artistic voice of this remarkable company, is both a privilege and a responsibility I carry with deep passion,” Ventriglia said.
