18-year-old assaulted with a weapon in violent Calgary road rage incident

Calgary police are investigating a violent road rage incident that saw a young man assaulted with a weapon.

The assault happened in the 6100 block of Fourth Avenue N.E. at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15.

Police say a mother was teaching her 18-year-old son to park in an SUV when a white pickup truck “pulled up aggressively behind them.”

“The driver of the pickup truck drove around their vehicle, made a U-turn and parked next to the SUV,” police said in a Thursday news release. “Two men exited the pickup truck and made attempts to enter the victims’ SUV.”

The son exited his vehicle to protect his mother, at which time he was assaulted, police said.

The victim’s mother called 911 and the men left the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about the attack to come forward.

One suspect is described as 5’8” to 6’ tall (173 to 183 cm) and wearing a navy T-shirt and black pants. He may have had a face mask on.

The second man is described as 5’8” to 6’ tall (173 to 183 cm) with short, dark hair and possible facial hair. He was wearing a black hat, a white T-shirt and black pants.

The white pickup truck is believed to have been a 1999 to 2007 white Chevrolet Silverado, with an object extending out of the box.

It is also believed that there may have been additional witnesses travelling in a white Ford Fusion, who may have filmed the altercation.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has video of it, is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.
