TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down in late-morning trading on Thursday, driven by weakness in technology and industrial stocks, while U.S. markets rose. The S&P/TSX composite index was down 50.95 points at 35,282.83. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 126.75 points at 51,720.89. The S&P 500 index was up 63.79 points at 7,379.94, while the Nasdaq composite was up 512.29 points at 24,955.23. The Canadian dollar traded for 71.34 cents US compared with 71.01 cents US on Wednesday. The September crude oil contract was down 21 cents US at US$84.24 per barrel.
