Drivers will want to wait one more day to fill up the gas tank for the long weekend road trip, with prices set to drop six cents a litre on Saturday. Gas prices increased three cents a litre at stations in Ottawa and across Ontario on Friday. The average price of gas is 180.9 cents a litre. Canadians for Affordable Energy president Dan McTeague says gas prices will drop six cents a litre on Saturday to an average of $1.74 a litre. Diesel prices are expected to drop seven cents a litre on Saturday. Motorists have seen gas prices jump as much as 60 cents a litre so far this year due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The price of gas hit $1.96 a litre in May. “Twenty per cent of the world’s global oil and petroleum supplies have been blocked off in the Strait of Hormuz; we’ve known that since the beginning of March,” McTeague told CTV News Barrie, adding the world is using up its emergency supplies. “The world is short probably about 1.5 billion barrels.” McTeague recommends never “buy your gasoline before 6 p.m.” “That’s because gas stations have about 12 cents a litre they can shed and they often do after 6 p.m.”
