Motorists will want to fill up the gas tank before prices increase heading into the long weekend. Canadians for Affordable Energy president Dan McTeague says gas prices will increase three cents a litre at stations in Ottawa and across Ontario on Friday. Gas will sell for an average price of 180.9 cents in Ottawa on Friday, according to McTeague The price of gas dropped four cents a litre on Wednesday. Motorists have seen gas prices jump as much as 60 cents a litre so far this year due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The price of gas hit $1.96 a litre in May. “Twenty per cent of the world’s global oil and petroleum supplies have been blocked off in the Strait of Hormuz; we’ve knock that since the beginning of March,” McTeague told CTV News Barrie, adding the world is using up its emergency supplies. “The world is short probably about 1.5 billion barrels.” McTeague recommends never “buy your gasoline before 6 p.m.” “That’s because gas stations have about 12 cents a litre they can shed and they often do after 6 p.m.”
