A York Region resident hit a home run from the bleachers when he learned he had become a millionaire at a baseball game. Brandon G., of King City, Ont., was watching a relative play at a baseball tournament when he saw on his phone that OLG had sent him multiple emails. He thought some of those emails were spam. He plays Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 regularly and says he only checks his account when he sees an email from the lottery corporation. “When I logged into my account, I initially thought I’d won $10,000,” Brandon told the gaming corporation as he was collecting his prize. “Then I noticed the extra zeros and realized it was $10 million.” He found a private moment away from the game to call his partner to share the news with her and recounted the disbelief they were both in. “It was exciting, but we knew it wouldn’t feel real until the $10 million hit my bank account,” Brandon chuckled. ‘This feels pretty real’ As he was picking up his $10-million-dollar check from OLG, he said the reality started to sink in. “There’s always a question as to whether this is real or whether it’s not real, so you never know. But this feels pretty real right now,” he said. Though Brandon is now a multi-millionaire, he says he plans to continue working as he still has “several more years” before he retires—though his earnings provide a sense of security and some peace of mind for the future. While Brandon plans to invest his money, he says he has a few bucket list items he wants to knock off with his family. “I have big sports fans in my family, so we’d love to visit some baseball stadiums in the U.S. We’d also like to head west to Edmonton to see the Oilers and Connor McDavid play,” he said. Remembering dad Brandon also has his sights set on international travel, looking to go on a family vacation to either Greece or Italy. “This win will allow me to slow down a bit and spend more quality time with my family,” Brandon said. Brandon felt nostalgic winning the Lotto Max, recounting the mornings he used to spend checking lottery tickets with his late father who used to love to pay. “While it may seem like a small thing, it was always fun spending time together checking our tickets,” Brandon said. “My dad would have really enjoyed this win.” The winning Lotto Max ticket was purchased online on the OLG website.
