Wasaga Beach wants residents to help shape future waterfront and downtown

Wasaga Beach wants to make its waterfront and downtown even better, not just for summer visitors but for year-round enjoyment and the town wants residents to share their ideas.

Starting Nov. 17, the town is asking residents to give input on its long-term plan called Destination Wasaga. This plan will guide how the beach, downtown, and historic spots like Nancy Island are improved.

The Town says the Ontario government has already put $38 million into the project to help make Wasaga Beach a world-class destination while keeping the beach publicly owned and open to everyone. The goal is to boost tourism, protect natural beauty, and create spaces that reflect the community’s identity.

“Wasaga Beach holds a special place in the hearts of Ontarians as a place where natural beauty, recreation, and community spirit come together. This process will give residents a strong voice in how the town grows and evolves, ensuring that the beachfront and downtown reflect the values and priorities of the people who call Wasaga Beach home. Together, we’re laying the groundwork for a vibrant and sustainable future that generations of Ontarians can enjoy,” stated Brian Saunderson, Simcoe-Grey MPP.

The town hired Urban Strategies, a planning firm that specializes in waterfront projects. Officials say the Ontario-based design and planning firm will work with locals, businesses, and Indigenous partners to design the vision.

The first chance to get involved is Nov. 17 to Nov. 20 at the RecPlex, where there will be workshops, open houses, and surveys. Residents can meet the planners, learn about the project, and share ideas on things like improving the waterfront, adding public spaces, celebrating local culture, and growing tourism.
