TLDSB announces closure of all schools due to impending winter storm

Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) announced on Wednesday it would close all schools in anticipation of a winter storm forecast to hit central Ontario overnight.

Environment Canada issued a storm warning, stating heavy snowfall would begin Wednesday afternoon and continue through the night into Thursday morning.

TLDSB said the closure would impact schools, education centres and child care facilities in schools on Thursday.

“We are communicating with families now in an effort to give them time to make alternative arrangements,” the announcement noted.

The board confirmed schools would not shift to online learning.

The planned screening of ‘The Truth About Reading’ at Rene M. Caisse Theatre in Bracebridge initially scheduled for Thursday is postponed.

“We hope students will take this opportunity to catch up on work, read a book, and/or get outside to play,” the board added.

It concluded with, “We know this is an unusual circumstance and we appreciate parents/guardians for their understanding during this time.”
