Speed cameras in new locations in Innisfil: Here’s where they are now

Maximum 40 km/h and pedestrian crossing signage in a community safety zone.

If you’re driving through Innisfil, you may want to ease off the gas, the town’s speed cameras have relocated ahead of the new school year.

The automated speed enforcement (ASE) cameras are now set up in several community safety zones, many of them near schools where children and pedestrians cross daily.

The current locations include:

• Webster Boulevard, near Lake Simcoe Public School
• Innisfil Beach Road, near Alcona Glen Elementary School
• Yonge Street at Lynn Street, Stroud
• 9th Line, near Goodfellow Public School

Drivers passing Alcona Glen Elementary may notice a change with the usual flashing lights that warn motorists entering the school zone. The lights are now covered.

"When speed cameras are active, Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act requires the use of static speed limit signs instead of flashing indicators. This ensures drivers always see a consistent, enforceable limit," the Town stated.

Since the ASE program launched in Innisfil last year, officials say the cameras have helped curb speeding. The Town points to local data and recent CAA South Central Ontario findings showing driving behaviour is changing, with average speeds dropping by about 20 kilometres an hour in areas with active cameras.

The Town says the program doesn’t cost taxpayers. "Revenue from the program covers ASE implementation costs and supports the maintenance of other local traffic safety measures."

The Town says the goal isn’t to catch drivers off guard and collect fines, rather it’s about promoting safety on the roads.
