Alliston man dies in Highway 89 collision involving tractor-trailer

Police closed a section of Highway 89 in Cookstown following a deadly crash near 6th Line and County Road 56 Monday afternoon.

Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a tractor-trailer and a vehicle on Highway 89 in Cookstown.

Police closed a section of Highway 89 following the deadly crash near 6th Line and County Road 56 Monday afternoon. Emergency crews were called to the scene around 2:30 p.m.

Police say a 51-year-old Alliston man was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

According to paramedics, another individual involved in the collision declined medical treatment. No other injuries were reported.

The highway was closed until the early morning hours on Tuesday while the OPP Technical Collision Investigators and a reconstructionist investigated the crash scene.

The cause of the collision has not been released. It’s also unclear whether any charges are pending.
