Police throw down spike belt to stop erratic driver

Police threw the book at a Midland driver after they were forced to use a spike belt to stop him.

After receiving traffic complaints about a car being driven erratically near Highway 12 and Vasey Road Tuesday shortly after 5 p.m., Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) hit the road.

Police located the car near Penetanguishene Road and Ski Trails Road where they threw down a spike belt to stop the vehicle.

Police charged a 27-year-old Midland man with:

• Dangerous operation
• Flight from peace officer
• Operation while impaired by alcohol or drugs
• Failure or refusal to comply with demand
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• Operation while prohibited
• Failure to stop after accident
• Fail to comply with probation order
• Possession of heroin

Additionally, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days.

The accused was held in custody to appear for a bail hearing on Wednesday.
