Late-night fire breaks out at abandoned Barrie townhouse

Police arrived at 11 p.m. to a boarded-up multi-story building on Berczy Street on fire.

An abandoned townhouse caught fire in Barrie overnight Thursday, according to Barrie police.

Authorities say officers were dispatched to Berczy Street just before 11 p.m. to an older boarded up, multi-story building.

According to the Deputy Fire Chief for Barrie Fire Thomas Bezruki, a neighbour made the call. The platoon chief along with five different apparatuses responded to the fire.

Bezruki says crews found nothing after a search inside.

Police say they have been called to the location of the townhouse before for reports of unwanted people at the property.

Crews remain on scene.

There is no cause or origin at this time.
