Calgary police say two suspects, both of whom are under 18, are in custody following a stabbing in the community of Auburn Bay on Thursday. The stabbing happened in the 0-100 block of Auburn Meadows Way S.E. just before 6 p.m. The victim, also a youth, was taken to hospital in serious condition. On Friday, police said the victim’s status has since been upgraded to stable condition. ‘Did you stab him?’ Area resident Rima Smidi says she was outside with her three young kids – an eight-year-old boy and six-year-old twins – when she heard a commotion. “I look down the alley, I saw a group of teenage boys and they were surrounding another teenage boy,” Smidi said. “There was a lot of yelling, and then they all just started attacking him.” Smidi says she started screaming at the teens to stop and called 911. “They noticed me, and then they started running towards me. I told my kids, I said, ‘Get inside the house, lock the door, do not open it unless it’s me or the police.’ “I thought either I’m going to have to fight these guys off too – they’re coming for me – or they’re just dumb and running right toward the witness. “As they’re running towards me, one of the kids lifts up his shirt and puts a weapon in his waistband.” Smidi says at first she thought the weapon was a gun, but now believes it was a knife. “As they’re running, they’re yelling, ‘Did you stab him? Did you stab him?’ and one said, ‘Yeah, I got him.’” ‘He had no chance’ Smidi says some of the teens had bricks while another had bear spray. She says the teens, who were all wearing masks and hoodies, rushed around a corner and through a nearby playground. “It was six versus one; he had no chance.” Smidi says once the group ran off, she rushed down the alley to find the victim – but he was gone. “I couldn’t find him.” She says police located the teen at a different location shortly after. The mother says her young children witnessed the violence and had trouble sleeping that night because of it. “They don’t even want to go to the playground anymore,” Smidi said. “It was pretty frightening, I’m not going to lie.” Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.
