Impaired driver arrested after foot pursuit

A 26-year-old man from Tiny Township faces numerous charges after fleeing from police during an impaired driving investigation.

According to Southern Georgian Bay OPP, police responded to a report of suspected impaired driving by a business in Midland around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.

OPP say a short while later an officer saw a vehicle driving erratically prior to conducting a stop on Balm Beach Road in Tiny Township.

During the investigation, police attempted to conduct a sobriety test however the suspect fled on foot.

Police chased the suspect for a brief period of time before a conducted energy weapon was used to stop the suspect from fleeing.

the suspect faces charges including operation while impaired, failure or refusal to comply with demand, resist peace officer, mischief - destroy or damage property, novice driver - blood alcohol concentration above zero, drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor, operate motor vehicle without insurance.

The accused was released and is set to appear in court at a later date.
