Paddles aren’t just for canoeing – they can be used as canvases and turned into works of art too. And that’s just what local artists have done in Washago. Several colourfully painted, 5-foot paddles featuring summery scenes of cottage life, nature, wildlife and lakes can be seen on display in the downtown. The works of art could be yours though as they’ll soon by auctioned off with proceeds going to support the community. If there’s one you really want, a pre-bid is currently taking place at the Art Gallery of Washago in the historic Washago Hotel building. The public is invited to place a bid Thursday through Sunday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Bids start at $100. The live auction will be held at the Washago Community Centre on Aug. 29 at 2 p.m.
