Two Halifax-area men charged in separate child sex abuse exploitation material investigations

Two men from the Halifax area are facing charges related to child sexual abuse exploitation material following separate investigations and searches.

Police received information on June 3 that child sex abuse material had been found on a seized electronic device during an unrelated investigation.

That led investigators with the Internet Child Exploitation Unit to search an address in Dartmouth, N.S., where they seized a number of electronic devices.

Kyle Brimicombe, 31, was arrested on July 10 and appeared in Dartmouth provincial court on July 13.

Brimicombe is facing the following charges:

• two counts of sexual assault
• two counts of sexual interference
• three counts of possession of child sexual abuse exploitation material
• two counts of making child sexual abuse exploitation material
• accessing child sexual abuse exploitation material

Meanwhile, a 75-year-old man has been charged after police searched a Halifax address in connection with a separate investigation.

Police first received information on March 23 that someone in Halifax may be accessing child sexual abuse exploitation material online.

Investigators say they seized a number of electronic devices and arrested the man during Thursday’s search.

William Lewis appeared in Halifax provincial court on Friday. He is facing the following charges:

• possession of child sexual abuse exploitation material
• access child sexual abuse exploitation material
• breach of probation

Lewis was remanded into custody until his next court date on Aug. 24.
