Blowing snow, bitter cold temperatures with wind chill will feel like -35C

Temperatures will dip into the very low minuses for Super Bowl weekend.

A blast of bitter air, snow and powerful wind is bearing down on parts of Simcoe County once again.

Environment Canada issued yellow-level advisories Friday morning for cold dips and blowing snow across a wide swath of the region, including Barrie, Collingwood, Orangeville, Newmarket, Owen Sound, Orillia, and surrounding communities.

Wind chills are also expected to plunge to -30 and -35 Friday night into Saturday morning, with similar conditions possibly returning Saturday night.

“Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill,” said Environment Canada. “Check on older family, friends and neighbours. Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle such as extra blankets and jumper cables.”

During this time it is important to watch for cold related symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Up to 8cm of snow on the way

A fast-moving system will bring four to eight centimetres of snow, followed by wind gusts up to 80 kilometres an hour, says Environment Canada.

Conditions are expected to improve later Saturday, but residents are advised to continue monitoring forecasts and plan accordingly as the system moves through.
