Grocery run turns into $105K lottery win for Orillia man

An Orillia father of two is celebrating a major lottery win after taking home $105,901.80 with his Lotto 6/49 ticket. Joshua Whibley said he’s been playing the lottery faithfully since he turned 18, usually picking up tickets while running errands.

"It’s my routine to go for groceries and pick up my tickets,” he shared, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his winnings. “The night after the Lotto 6/49 draw, I checked my ticket against the winning numbers and realized it was a match. Later, I scanned it using the OLG app on my phone and realized I’d won over $100,000.”

The excitement was enough to keep him awake. “I was very happy and felt blessed,” he said.

Whibley’s first call was to his father, who was stunned to hear the news. “He was shocked and couldn’t believe it.”

He said the money would be put toward family and future investments. “Being a winner feels very good. I’m very grateful for this win.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Food Basics on West Ridge Boulevard in Orillia.
