Fire at downtown Barrie building under investigation

Yellow police tape surrounds a building in downtown Barrie following an early morning fire on Tuesday.

Officials say the call came in around 4 a.m. as a structure fire at 1 Dunlop Street. According to Barrie Fire and Emergency Services Deputy Fire Chief Eric MacFadden, five fire trucks responded to the scene initially, though the response was scaled back to three trucks shortly after crews assessed the situation.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury, but there were no other reports of anyone being injured.

It remains unclear whether any nearby businesses were directly impacted, though police say the age of the building raises concerns about potential effects on neighbouring properties.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Police say this is an active and ongoing investigation.
