An Ontario Provincial Police officer has been charged with manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a man in Norfolk County last year. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says officers attempted to stop the operator of a personal watercraft on Lake Erie at the MacDonald Turkey Point Marina on Aug. 12, 2025. The SIU says the man did not stop, docked the watercraft and then fled on foot into a wooded area. It says an officer discharged a firearm at the 22 year old during the arrest. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. SIU director Joseph Martino says he has reasonable grounds to believe Const. Quade Odrowski committed a criminal offence in relation to the shooting. The provincial watchdog says Odrowski was arrested at SIU headquarters Thursday and released on an undertaking with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court June 2. In a statement, the Ontario Provincial Police Association said it supports Odrowski and its members involved in the incident. “Our members have cooperated with the investigation led by the Special Investigations Unit, as mandated by law. As part of the OPP Association’s support of PC Odrowski, we are providing him with legal counsel and will fully support his defence as the matter proceeds through the justice system,” the statement said. “Any time a police interaction results in the loss of life, there are serious and far-reaching impacts for all those involved and affected. The upcoming judicial process will be long and stressful, and we urge all OPPA members impacted by this incident to seek professional or peer mental health supports.” With files from The Canadian Press
