Don’t be alarmed: Barrie police training held in south end

If you were driving or walking near the Allandale Recreational Centre on Friday and saw a flurry of police activity don’t worry, it wasn’t an emergency. It was all part of a planned training exercise by the Barrie Police Service’s Emergency Support Unit.

The training took place in the area surrounding Little Avenue and Bayview Drive, stretching from the rec centre to Lackie’s Bush—a wooded area with winding trails near Innisdale Secondary School.

The service noted officers were using using high-tech equipment, including a remote piloted aircraft system - essentially a drone - and a mobile command post, which looks like a large, specialized vehicle outfitted with communication and coordination tools.

The exercise is typically designed to sharpen the team’s response skills in a controlled environment, ensuring officers well-prepared for any future incidents.

Barrie police expected the drill to wrap up around 2 p.m.
