County of Simcoe invests in regional hospice and palliative care services

The County of Simcoe gave a financial boost for end-of-life care to ensure families have the support and comfort necessary during a difficult time.

County councillors presented a cheque for $427,782 to Simcoe County Hospital Alliance for residential hospice and palliative care services last week as part of a five-year $2.5 million commitment to support community expansion and capital projects.

County Warden Basil Clarke called the funding an investment in dignity and compassion. "By building up hospice services, we ensure that individuals and their families receive the comfort, respect, and quality care they deserve during life’s most challenging moments. We also hope that our support encourages greater awareness and funding for these extremely important agencies in our communities."

"The hospices in our county are nimble, charitable organizations that remain close to their respective communities and rely on donated and public funds to provide exceptional end-of-life care," noted Ted Markle, the executive director with Mariposa House Hospice.

Hospice Georgian Triangle, Hospice Simcoe, Matthew's House Hospice, and Mariposa House Hospice also received funding this year.
