Convicted serial fraudster Todd ‘The Fraud’ Guthrie sentenced to more jail time

Convicted serial fraudster from Collingwood, Todd Guthrie known as 'Todd the Fraud' has been sentenced to additional jail time.

A Collingwood man convicted of selling fake hockey and concert tickets has been sentenced to 30 more days in jail after pleading guilty Wednesday to fraud under $5,000 in the summer of 2023.

Todd Guthrie appeared in a Bracebridge courtroom after several weeks of failed attempts to resolve the matter. He had previously pleaded guilty in March for defrauding 18 people out of more than $30,000 in tickets he promised but never delivered.

Guthrie was arrested in January, accused of two more counts of fraud under $5,000 relating to allegations from August and September 2023.

Guthrie, who remains in jail in Penetanguishene, was sentenced in March to 15 months behind bars. On Wednesday in Bracebridge, another month was added to his time, along with probation for a year.

The 45-year-old admitted to ripping customers off by promising highly-sought-after VIP events, including tickets to last year’s NHL All-Star Game in Toronto.

The court heard Guthrie accepted e-transfer payments but never delivered the tickets. Victims said he was a smooth talker and full of excuses.

Guthrie, the Crown read in March, used the money to feed a gambling addiction he said he developed in the past three to five years.

The court also heard Guthrie was previously convicted of fraud in 2015 and spent six months in jail.
