Barrie testing sewers with harmless fog: Here’s where and when

City of Barrie will conducting fog testing this fall on specific streets.

If you see fog rising from the ground or even rooftops in parts of Barrie, there’s no need to worry, the City says it’s part of its ongoing efforts to keep the sewer system in good shape.

The City of Barrie announced it will be using a harmless, odourless fog to test section of the sanitary sewer network on Mon., Oct. 20 and Tues., Oct. 21. Officials say the testing helps city staff find and fix potential problems underground before they turn into costly repairs or backups.

“A fog testing notice is being hand delivered to the affected properties,” the City confirmed. "The notice includes full information about how to prepare, what to expect, and frequently asked questions."

During the test, crews will blow fog into the sewer lines and watch for where it escapes, such as through catch basins, maintenance holes, or even the ground.

The fog testing works will be completed on these streets:

• Cox Mill Road 
• Crimson Ridge Road 
• Dock Road
• Gray Lane 
• Jean Street 
• Plunkett Court 
• Royal Park Boulevard
• Tamarack Trail 
• Tollendal Mill Road 
• Turner Drive 
• Tyndale Road

Fog testing will also take place on these streets in the future (timing TBD).
