P.E.I. fielded more than 11K calls on mental health, addictions line in 2025: report

Prince Edward Island’s mental health and addictions access line saw more than 11,000 calls in 2025, which represents a 66 per cent increase from just two years ago, according to a new report.

Health PEI and Medavie provided an update on the Mobile Mental Health program for the Standing Committee on Health and Social Development on Jan. 21. The report noted the 24/7 access line, which provides support from trained mental health professionals, had 11,597 calls last year.

The report said the line had 7,000 calls in 2023 and 9,506 calls in 2024.

Common reasons for contacting mental health services were cited as:

• anxiety
• situational stressors
• substance and alcohol use
• family/marital issues
• feeling overwhelmed

The Mobile Mental Health program features a team of trained health-care professionals who can provide in-person care if a situation requires more than phone-base support. The service is available daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The mobile team responded to 1,313 episodes of care in 2025, according to the report. They had 700 episodes in 2023 and 1,181 in 2024.

In 2025, the mobile team attended with police 669 times, which represented a 166 per cent increase from 2023.
