Inmate at Springhill Institution dies while in custody: CSC

An inmate at a federal prison in Nova Scotia died while in custody Tuesday.

At the time of his death, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says 43-year-old Darren Bonenfant was an inmate at Springhill Institution in Springhill, N.S.

Bonenfant had been serving a sentence of two years since Jan. 29.

“As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified,” reads a news release from CSC.

Bonenfant’s next of kin have been notified.
