‘I just like clean cars’: N.S. businessman opens car spa in Bedford

Jacks Car Spa isn't just another wash, it's a high-tech experience that's turning heads on social media.

Jack’s Car Spa is not just another car wash; it caters to every detail when it comes to keeping cars clean.

“We do a lot more than just the wash, right?” said owner Mickey (Michael) MacDonald. “We offer self wash, detailing. We’re not just a put your car in and get washed. I mean, that’s great for someone in a hurry, that’s convenient. But this gives you a little bit more, it’s like a spa.”

Jack’s opened their colourful carwash to the public this past week, and it has been going viral on social media.

“We saw it on TikTok” said Isabella Lees, a car enthusiast and customer of the self wash at Jack’s. “Usually, the rubber ducks are kind of small, and we want to try out something new.”

The video in question showed Jack’s Car Spa at night, when it’s lit up and colourful.

“We opened the tunnel up on Monday and we didn’t tell anybody. We opened it up, but there’s always people going through it,” said MacDonald.

“I love it. It’s great. I think that the building itself is really nice,” said Lees. “And I feel like it’s a great place for people who wanted to even have car meets here.”

MacDonald owns the four acres of land the spa is on and, as a lifelong car lover, he thought this was the perfect addition to the community.

“This whole area is growing fast, and I’m a big car guy, all my life,” he said. “I just like clean cars. And I thought, well, I know I’ll be a big user here.”

There are detailing packages available, or people can spend three dollars to vacuum out their own cars. The self wash is one dollar per minute and the viral car tunnel rangers from $13 to $19.

“It has more of a sponge, slower speed. And it really cleans the car differently,” said MacDonald. “It doesn’t cause scratches, doesn’t knock cameras off.”

And it takes only about four minutes once you drive it on the conveyer belt.

Right now, the spa is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. but will be open on weekends after the grand opening on June 1.

Detailing appointments are already booked up for the next several weeks.

It will also be opening a dog spa where owners can wash their four-legged friends or have someone do it for them.

“My daughter, she has Portuguese water dog, and she’s a huge animal lover,” MacDonald said. “So I said we can add a little dog wash, and we’ll call it Sophie’s Dog Wash. So, she’s excited about that.”

Jack’s Car Spa is a family business, right down to the name.

“Named it after my son, after my brother, and after my dad’s brother,” he said. “It was kind of a family tradition kind of thing.”

His dad’s brother Jack lost his life fighting in the Second World War, so to honour him, MacDonald’s brother was named Jack, and he named his second son the same.
