Two people sprayed with ‘unknown irritant’ at Halifax Transit Bridge Terminal

Halifax Transit had to temporarily close its Dartmouth Bridge Terminal late Friday afternoon after two people were sprayed with an irritant.

Halifax Transit had to temporarily close its Dartmouth Bridge Terminal late Friday afternoon.

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) said officers were called around 4:15 p.m. Police said two victims reported having been sprayed with an “unknown irritant” by an unidentified suspect.

The two were treated at the scene by EHS.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Halifax Transit shared on social media there was a “sensory irritant incident.” As a result, the inside passenger area was closed to the public.

At the time, a notice was posted to the building reading, “Door is closed. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Halifax Transit said supervisors were on the scene to assist the public.

Police said this is not believed to be a random incident.

“The investigation is ongoing, and no one has been arrested or charged at this point,” said police in an email to CTV News.

The terminal reopened before 9 p.m.
