Government lifts burn ban for most of Nova Scotia

The provincial government is lifting the burn ban for all parts of Nova Scotia except Annapolis County, which is still grappling with the Long Lake wildfire.

The ban, which was implemented on July 30, restricted all open fires in the province due to dry conditions.

“It’s been a very challenging wildfire season, and I thank all Nova Scotians for co-operating with the prevention measures we put in place,” said Tory Rushton, minister of Natural Resources, in a news release. “For most of the province, the daily burn restrictions will resume until the end of the season, and it’s still very important that everyone follow them to keep our people and our communities safe.”

The daily restrictions will be updated at 2 p.m. every day to let people know what will be allowed. Restrictions can apply to campfires, bonfires, brush fires and any fire that is not enclosed and uses wood as a fuel.

Burning of any kind will still not be allowed across the province from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

The ongoing ban in Annapolis County will stay in effect until the end of wildfire season on Oct. 15.

Earlier this month, the province lifted its woods ban for all parts of Nova Scotia except Annapolis County.

Both bans carried a $25,000 fine for violations.
