Eight-month Dutch Village Road construction in Halifax to wrap up on Friday

After eight months, an extensive construction project on Dutch Village Road in Halifax will wrap up on Friday, opening up the street for vehicles and pedestrians.

The multi-million-dollar project, which got Halifax council approval in 2020, officially started last April. The work aimed to install a new sidewalk, raised protected cycling lanes, pedestrian crossings and accessible concrete bus stop pads.

The municipality says the vast majority of the construction work will be done by 6 p.m. Friday. There will be final touches in the coming weeks, followed by landscaping work next spring.

All lane closures connected to the project will be reopened along with sidewalks and crosswalks. The municipality notes there will continue to be “sidewalk impacts” near 3461 Dutch Village Rd. due to private development work.

Halifax Transit bus routes 28 and 137 will resume regular service via Dutch Village Road and Rosedale Avenue on Dec. 23.
