New data from Airbnb shows the top 10 trendiest neighbourhoods coast-to-coast in Canada, and downtown Halifax is on it. The data from this summer also shows bookings in those trendy areas are up nearly 180 per cent year-over-year. Airbnb quotes a Halifax host named Katie in a news release. She says, “It’s the capital of Nova Scotia that keeps the small-town charm it’s had for centuries,” citing the harbour, the boardwalk, ships, beer gardens and oyster bars. The online platform offers homeowners the chance to rent out their available rooms, apartments and houses to travellers. Many guests report feeling more integrated into the communities they stay in when they book with Airbnb hosts. Airbnb says 67 per cent of guests in Atlantic Canada said their listing made them feel like they had a closer connection with the local culture than if they stayed at a hotel or resort. “Travellers today are looking for more than a place to stay, they’re looking for a sense of place – and it’s our local hosts who help them find it,” says Hannah Parish, Airbnb country manager for Canada. “Canadian hosts point guests toward the coffee shop on the corner or the walk through the park that makes a neighbourhood feel like home.” Airbnb says visitors also benefit local economies, as hosts recommend local spots and hidden gems. Airbnb data from the Atlantic region shows a typical guest spends $275 per day on their trip, not counting the accommodations. The top 10 trendiest Canadian neighbourhoods reported by Airbnb for 2026 are: “This list reflects how different communities look across the country, from the East Vancouver neighbourhood known for its thriving arts scene to the historic charm of Downtown Halifax,” adds Parish.
