Culture Minister Marc Miller unveils Black History Month theme in Cherry Brook, N.S.

Canada’s Black History Month 2026 theme is revealed in Cherry Brook, Nova Scotia.

Canadian Identity and Culture Minister Marc Miller unveiled the theme for this year’s Black History Month in Nova Scotia Wednesday morning.

The theme will be “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries.”

The Department of Canadian Heritage says the theme recognizes the enduring legacy of Black Canadians.

The announcement was made at the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia in Cherry Brook, which promotes and celebrates the history, culture and contributions of African Nova Scotians.

Miller also announced funding of more than $280,000 for nine projects in the Atlantic Region that are said to highlight Black History Month.

The federal government is inviting Canadians to learn more about the diversity and accomplishments of Black Canadians across the country during the month of February, while reflecting on systemic barriers communities continue to face, including racism and discrimination.

“The stories of Black communities are woven into the very fabric of Canada’s history. As we mark 30 years of Black History Month in Canada, we honour the legacy and contributions of Black Canadians across generations, from those who helped build our country to those shaping its future,” Miller said in a news release.

“This anniversary gives us the opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to advancing equity, inclusion and opportunity for Black communities from coast to coast to coast.”
