Steroids, cocaine seized at N.B. maximum security federal institution

Staff at the Atlantic Institution in New Brunswick seized drugs and accessories worth more than $110,000 last weekend.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says staff seized a package with contraband on Sunday. The package contained:

• steroids
• cocaine
• methamphetamine
• brew
• cellphones
• accessories
• USB keys

The seized items are worth an estimated $110,850.

CSC confirmed with CTV News Atlantic the contraband was related to drone activity.

“CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” a news release from CSC reads. “CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.”

The correctional service says it uses ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, inmates and visitors at institutions.
