Fredericton police team responds to public drug use and petty crime downtown

Fredericton’s police team aimed at responding to public drug use and related criminal activity in the downtown area has made multiple arrests in the past two months.

According to a news release from the police force, the Direct Action Response Team (DART) made 30 arrests, 14 were for open air drug use.

The team was launched in May 2025, focusing on public drug use, petty crime and street-level disorder in the downtown core.

Police say DART operations in that two-month period also:

• executed 18 warrants
• seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and prescription pills
• recovered stolen property
• seized multiple prohibited weapons
• closed three repeat priority offender files

Officers made seven arrests on Tuesday, five of which were for open air drug use. They executed five warrants, seized roughly two ounces of suspected fentanyl and smaller quantities of suspected methamphetamine and prescription pills, and a large fixed-blade knife.
