Northumberland Ferries saw nearly 100K boost in passengers in 2025

Northumberland Ferries Limited says it saw a nearly 100,000 increase in passengers in 2025 compared to 2024, making this year their busiest since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company, which provides ferry trips between Wood Islands, P.E.I., and Caribou, N.S., said it carried 378,757 passengers in its 2025 season, up by 95,313 from 2024.

“In August 2025, the Government of Canada introduced fare reductions to improve interprovincial mobility and stimulate economic growth,” a news release from Northumberland Ferries reads. “The response from travelers was immediate with ridership increasing noticeably as more residents and visitors took advantage of the lower fares, and demand remained strong through the remainder of the season.

“The initiative contributed meaningfully to the overall growth experienced in 2025 helping make it the busiest season since 2019.”

This year was also marked by the introduction of the MV Northumberland to the company’s fleet.
