Police presence cleared after drivers told not to pick up hitchhikers along Highway 11

Provincial police advised drivers about an increased presence along Highway 11 just north of Barrie overnight.

In a 3:49 a.m. social media post, Orillia OPP warned that there was an increased police presence on the east side of the Highway between Penetanguishene Road and Line 2 South.

Police say there was a crash and an ongoing investigation. No injuries were reported.

In a 4:50 a.m. update, drivers were asked to not pick up hitchhikers or make unnecessary stops as the investigation continued. The right lane of Highway 11 northbound was closed in the area.

In a 6:30 a.m. update, the OPP confirmed that all lanes had reopened and that the situation returned to ‘normal.’
