Moncton named ‘rattiest’ city in Eastern Canada for sixth year in a row

Pest control company Orkin Canada ranked cities based on the number of service calls for rodents relative to population sizes.

Moncton residents may want to invest in mouse traps since the city has been named the “rattiest” in Eastern Canada for the sixth year in a row.

Orkin Canada, the largest pest control and environment services provider in the country, released its ranking of the rattiest cities on Tuesday. The list also included a breakdown by region.

The rankings are based on Orkin’s rat and mice treatments for commercial and residential areas from August 2024 to July 2025.

In Eastern Canada, Moncton topped the list. It has claimed the number one spot since 2020.

Halifax and St. John’s, Newfoundland, rounded out the top three. Other major Maritime cities on the list include Dartmouth (fourth place), Saint John, N.B. (sixth place), Charlottetown (seventh place), Summerside (eighth place), Dieppe (ninth place) and Sydney (12^th place).

On the national list, Moncton came in 10^th place. Toronto, Victoria and Vancouver occupied the first, second and third spots, respectively.

To mitigate rodent issues, Orkin recommends people trim trees and shrubs, eliminate water sources and seal entry points.
