Dorchester prison search yields contraband during lengthy lockdown

DORCHESTER, N.B. -- A policy restricting prisoners to their cells except for brief breaks ended at a federal prison in New Brunswick today after the completion of searches that led to seizures of contraband.

A news release from the Dorchester Institution says the lockdown began on Sept. 19 as searches began.

The institution says it has resumed its normal operations.

Correctional Service Canada says it is strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions.

The prison says that regular visiting has also resumed.
