Alert Ready system to be tested in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick on Wednesday

Nova Scotians and New Brunswickers should expect to receive a test alert on their mobile devices this Wednesday as part of Emergency Preparedness Week.

New Brunswick’s test of the national Alert Ready system will happen at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, followed by Nova Scotia’s test at 1:55 p.m.

“The test will take place on television, radio and compatible wireless devices connected to a LTE or 5G network,” a New Brunswick news release reads.

Nova Scotia says the test will also go through the NS Alert app.

As part of Emergency Preparedness Week, which runs until Saturday, Nova Scotia is encourage residents to prepare their homes for emergencies.

“No matter the emergency, people need to be ready for evacuations, power outages or damage to their homes,” said Kim Masland, minister of Emergency Management, in a news release. “Before an emergency happens, know your risks, make a plan and discuss it as a family, and build a grab-and-go bag to make sure you’re ready if there’s an evacuation. It’s always a good idea to check on your neighbours and ensure they’re also prepared.”
