Woman charged in deadly rooming house fire will plead guilty Monday

WINNIPEG - A woman charged with setting a fire that killed five people in a Winnipeg rooming house is set to enter guilty pleas.

Lulonda Flett, who is 41, was charged with five counts of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder after the July, 2011 fire at the home in the city's Point Douglas district.

Flett's lawyer, Darren Sawchuk, says Flett will appear in court Monday where new information on the case will be presented, and will plead guilty to different charges than second-degree murder.

Sawchuk would not say whether the charges have been reduced as part of a plea bargain and refused to comment further.

At the time of Flett's arrest, police said witnesses told them Flett had been in some sort of altercation with someone at the rooming house.

They said the fire was set on the house's front porch using some type of accelerant and spread very quickly.
