Winnipeg saw wettest October in over 40 years

It’s been a rainy autumn so far for Winnipeg, with the city seeing its wettest October in more than 40 years.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Winnipeg got 93.7 millimetres (mm) of precipitation last month – marking its sixth wettest October on record.

However, ECCC notes, October 2025 was the wettest October since 1984 when the city got 99 mm of precipitation.

The wettest Octobers on record for Winnipeg were in 1898 and 1949 when the city got 144.1 mm.

Outside of Winnipeg, Sprague saw its rainiest October on record, receiving 170 mm of precipitation. ECCC notes the precipitation total could be even higher as there are seven hours of missing data from Oct. 17. The previous record for Sprague was in October 1984 with 129.2 mm.

ECCC also reports Emerson has its third wettest October with 117.7 mm. The community recorded its wettest October in 2021 when it got 118.3 mm of precipitation.
