Here are the road closures in effect for the Santa Claus Parade on Saturday

The City of Winnipeg is closing some streets this weekend to make way for Santa’s sleigh.

Starting Saturday at 11 a.m., Portage Avenue will close in both direction between St. Mary Avenue and Main Street to facilitate the 2025 Manitoba Hydro Santa Claus Parade. The city said to expect limited access to Portage Avenue at northbound and southbound cross streets.

It also cautioned northbound Main Street will close late Saturday afternoon from William Stephenson Way to Portage Avenue as the parade makes it way through Portage and Main.

Complete road closures starting at 11 a.m. Saturday include:

• Southbound Main Street (McDermot Avenue to York Avenue);
• Portage Avenue East (Westbrook to Main Street);
• Westbound St. Mary Avenue (Edmonton Street to Memorial);
• Eastbound York Avenue (Colony Street to Memorial); and
• Osborne Street North / Memorial Boulevard / Colony Street (Broadway to Ellice Avenue)

No through traffic, limited parking

The city said to expect limited parking access and no through traffic at Portage Avenue between 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Those areas are:

• Fort Street (Graham Avenue to Portage Avenue);
• Garry Street (Ellice Avenue to Portage Avenue);
• Smith Street (St. Mary Avenue to Portage Avenue);
• Donald Street (Ellice Avenue to Portage Avenue);
• Hargrave Street (St. Mary Avenue to Portage Avenue);
• Carlton Street (Ellice Avenue to Portage Avenue);
• Edmonton Street (St. Mary Avenue to Portage Avenue);
• Kennedy Street (Portage Avenue to Graham Avenue); and
• Vaughan Street (Portage Avenue to Graham Avenue)

The Santa Claus Parade begins at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Grey Cup Festival closures still in effect

The city reminded drivers that streets previously closed for football festivities will continue throughout the weekend.

Those closures include:

• Eastbound York Avenue between Edmonton Street and Carlton Street until Sunday at 9 a.m.;
• Young Street from Portage Avenue to Ellice Avenue until Sunday at 9 a.m.; and
• Spence Street from Portage Avenue to Ellice Avenue until Monday at 8 a.m.

The city also said to expect single-lane closures on other streets to impact parking.

It recommended people check out its Lane Closure Map before going downtown.
