A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged after police said he carjacked a vehicle with a handgun. On Wednesday around 6 p.m., police said a man approached a 40-year-old woman and her daughter in their vehicle in a parking lot in the 500 block of Regent Avenue West. Police said he had a handgun and demanded the keys to the vehicle. The woman and her daughter were able to get away by going to a business nearby. Investigators said the suspect then went up to another parked vehicle and pointed the gun at a 43-year-old man inside, again demanding the keys. Police said the man tried to start the vehicle to get away, but the suspect shot out the driver-side window. The man got out of the vehicle and police said the suspect got away in the man’s 2016 Dodge Ram 1500. The vehicle was found abandoned a short time later and around 8 p.m. police found the suspect at a business in the 200 block of Melrose Avenue and arrested him. A 28-year-old man has been charged with robbery, two counts of pointing a firearm and possessing a weapon. He remains in custody and none of the charges have been tested in court.
