Police say the 23-year-old woman found dead earlier this month in Edmonton’s Silverberry neighbourhood was strangled by her partner. Officers took a man into custody around 7 p.m. on July 9 after finding Damanpreet Kaur unresponsive at a home in the area. She died three days later. An autopsy said the cause of death was strangulation, a detail investigators initially chose not to reveal. Ritish Kumar, the 22-year-old man in custody in connection with the death, was charged with second-degree murder on Wednesday. Police consider the death an intimate partner homicide and are not considering any other suspects.
