Parts of northern Manitoba are under an air quality warning due to wildfire smoke. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued an air quality warning Friday morning saying, “smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.” The warnings have been issued for Brochet, Leaf Rapids, Lynn Lake, Pukatawagan and Tadoule Lake. “Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour,” ECCC said in the warning. “As smoke levels increase, health risks increase. Limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.” ECCC said people that are more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke include those 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children and those with health conditions. There is a chance people can have mild symptoms like irritated eyes, nose and throat, headaches or a mild cough. “Check in on others who are in your care or live nearby who may be more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke.”
