Which Manitoba communities smashed heat records over the weekend

A balmy weekend ushered in a slew of new heat records across Manitoba.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), 18 Manitoba communities set new records on Sunday thanks to above-seasonal highs.

Included on the list – Winnipeg, which recorded a high of 10.3 C, besting the previous record of 8.9 C set in 1942.

Not to be outdone, Carman, Morden, Winkler, Pine Falls and Sprague also broke previous records set back in 1942.

Some of the most dramatic highs were in Deerwood, which logged a new record of 12.8 C, easily surpassing the previous record of 9.5 C set in 2011.

McCreary also handily beat its previous record of 9.7 C set in 2011 with a new high of 12 .2 C.

Similarly, Portage la Prairie’s scorching high of 13.8 C soared past its previous record of 10.6 C set many moons ago in 1890.

Conversely, Fisher Branch’s high of 8.9 C on Sunday was less than half a degree higher than the former record, also set in 2011.

Other communities that set new heat records are Berens River, Gimli, Melita, Norway House, Oak Point, Pinawa, Shoal Lake, and Steinbach.
