Carling Avenue has once again been voted the worst road in Ottawa, but it’s not one of the worst roads in Ontario, according to drivers. The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) released its annual list of the Worst Roads in Ontario on Thursday, based on nominations from drivers across Ontario. Carling Avenue was voted the worst road in Ottawa, followed by Bronson Avenue, Innes Road, Bank Street and Richmond Road. This is the 21st straight year that Carling Avenue has been voted the worst road in Ottawa. In 2023, Carling Avenue ranked as the fourth-worst road in Ontario. No Ottawa road ranked in the top 10 worst roads in Ontario this year. The CAA says Barton Street East in Hamilton was voted the worst road in Ontario, followed by Hurontario Street in Mississauga, Notre Dame Avenue in Sudbury, Sider Road in Fort Erie and Steeles Avenue East in Toronto. In eastern Ontario, Leveque Road in South Frontenac was voted the worst road in the region, followed by County Road 49 in Prince Edward County and Glen Road in Belleville. “The CAA Worst Roads campaign gives Ontarians a voice and helps shine a light on the roads that need attention most,” Brian Pirvu, government relations consultant for CAA South Central Ontario, said in a statement. “When people speak up, it helps drive action and ensures governments understand where investments are needed to keep communities safe and moving.” CAA says its Worst Roads campaign is intended to spark discussions with municipal and provincial government officials and prioritize infrastructure improvements where they are needed most. Municipalities are responsible for approximately 140,000 kilometres of roads across Ontario.
