An investigation is underway into the death of a child in Moncton, N.B. On Sunday around 9:30 a.m., Codiac RCMP responded to a call about a child in medical distress at a home on Killam Drive. In an email to CTV News, a spokesman said when officers arrived, medics were performing life-saving measures. “The child was then transported to hospital in what was believed to be critical condition,” Cpl. Luc Picard said in the email. “Unfortunately, the child later died in hospital as a result of their condition.” The Anglophone East School District says it has shared word with the Beaverbrook School community that a student in the elementary level passed away. In a letter to students and staff, Superintendent and CEO Randolph MacLean said a school counselling team, Beaverbrook staff and education support services will be available to help those who wish to seek comfort or need help processing this loss. “Our thoughts are with our student’s family and friends, our students, staff, and community,” MacLean said in the letter. “Our Beaverbrook School and Anglophone East School District communities will support each other as we navigate this sad time.” The New Brunswick Social Development Department tells CTV News they are aware of the young child’s death. They wouldn’t go into detail but in an email Thursday, department communications officer Ariel Mackenzie also said their thoughts are with family and students affected. “As this is an active police investigation, the department will not comment further,” Mackenzie wrote. An autopsy will be carried out to help determine the cause of death. Cpl.
