Officers attacked while trying to break up large fight: Winnipeg police

Two people were arrested after allegedly assaulting two police officers trying to break up a large fight at a Winnipeg lounge.

Two people were arrested after allegedly assaulting police officers trying to break up a fight at a north end lounge.

On Wednesday, Winnipeg police were sent to a licensed establishment in the 1100 block of Main Street, after a report about a fight involving around 15 people was made.

At 10:55 p.m., officers found two men allegedly “still actively fighting.” One was detained under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and the other was released without charges, police said.

While the officers tried to stop the fight, a 27-year-old woman allegedly kicked an officer and spat at another, and a 25-year-old man tried to stop officers from detaining one of the fighting men, police said.

They were both arrested for obstructing officers.

The woman is now facing two counts of assault on a peace officer and resisting a peace officer. She was released on an appearance notice.

The man is now facing a charge of obstruction of justice and was released on an undertaking.

No charges have been tested in court.
