Canadian musical icon Bif Naked is performing a free concert to raise funds for the region’s cancer support community. The public will come together this weekend for a community walk in support of the Gilda’s Club of Simcoe Muskoka, an organization that helps ensure no one has to face cancer alone. It’s something the singer knows a lot about as a cancer survivor herself. The punk singer was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 36 years old and recalls how important community is in the cancer journey. “The community and the fellowship really, the sorority, and the fraternity of other patients and the peer support that you get from other patients is integral to being able to survive and thrive as a patient and as a survivor and also for the families. The support that you get emotionally and socially – it gets you through even, almost hand-in-hand with the treatment,” the singer tells CTV News. Bif Naked is planning on a setlist consisting of songs that are both motivational, inspiring and empowering, but also familiar to the crowd. Some of those songs include “Lucky” and “I Love Myself Today.” The first Community is Stronger Than Cancer Walk will depart from Heritage Park along Barrie’s lakeshore on Sunday. Registration opens at 11 a.m. and the walk will kick off at 12 p.m. Following the walk at 2 p.m., participants will gather at Meridian Place to watch Bif Naked rock the stage.
